AquaPlane Barracuda – INFORMATION

The AquaPlane Barracuda is the flagship high-performance electric sea scooter in the AquaPlane line — a 100% carbon-fibre underwater scooter built around a 5.3 kW jet drive, 750 N of thrust and a 2,016 Wh battery. Seven selectable power levels, a feature-rich onboard display, programmable max depth (2 – 45 m) and a single- or dual-trigger throttle put professional-grade dive performance into a precise, durable package. It steps up from the lighter AquaPlane Mantis with more power, more speed and a full carbon-fibre hull, setting a class-leading benchmark in the underwater scooter category.

Performance and Engineering

5.3 kW jet drive, 750 N thrust

The Barracuda’s jet drive delivers 750 N of thrust and a 24 km/h top speed — among the most powerful in its class. The streamlined 100% carbon-fibre hull minimises drag, so the drive pulls strong even under higher load and at depth.

Seven power levels (gears)

Seven fixed-output power levels give precise control — from an economy mode for hours of cruising on a single battery up to top gear for sprint runs and competition use. Each gear also caps motor RPM, which helps with tight underwater manoeuvring.

2,016 Wh removable battery

The large 2,016 Wh battery delivers an operating time from 15 minutes at maximum output up to 302 minutes (just over five hours) at low gear. Lower gears extend battery life from minutes to hours and reduce fatigue on long dive sessions.

Display and Navigation

Feature-rich onboard display

  • Battery level – bar indicator + percentage
  • Current power mode (active gear) and max-gear limit
  • Live motor RPM via digital gauge
  • Compass with cardinal direction and current heading
  • Pitch and roll attitude indicators
  • Real-time depth + adjustable depth limit
  • Trip timer + total usage timer
  • Headlight and sub-light status with auto-brightness by depth
  • Battery temperature
  • Single- or double-hand operating mode indicator

Safety and Features

Programmable maximum depth

Set a maximum depth between 2 m and 45 m to match dive plan or rider experience — useful for instructor-led sessions, rental fleets and depth-restricted environments.

Single- or dual-trigger throttle

The Barracuda supports both single-trigger and dual-trigger throttle modes, so you can choose relaxed one-hand control or a balanced two-hand grip for high-thrust runs.

One-hand operation mode

A dedicated one-hand mode keeps full control available even when a free hand is needed for a camera, signalling or grabbing structure.

User-serviceable design

Modular construction allows in-house service for routine maintenance, reducing downtime and total cost of ownership. Trained dealers handle deeper work.

Gentle positive buoyancy

+1 kg of positive buoyancy means the Barracuda floats if released, reducing fatigue on the surface and preventing sinking incidents.

Design and Construction

  • 100% carbon-fibre hull – maximum stiffness and strength at the lowest possible weight
  • Display – high-contrast info hub with on-screen controls for quick adjustments

AquaPlane Barracuda FAQ

How is the Barracuda different from the Mantis?

The Barracuda is the more powerful, premium model: 29.5 kg, 750 N thrust, 24 km/h top speed, 7 gears and a 100% carbon-fibre hull, with an optional dual-trigger throttle mode. The lighter Mantis (24 kg, 670 N, 6 gears, composite hull) is easier to carry and has more positive buoyancy, making it the friendlier pick for casual recreational use.

Is the Barracuda suitable for beginners?

Yes. Gear 1 is tuned for first-time users, and the programmable depth limit lets you cap dives at any depth between 2 m and 45 m. The gear-based on/off throttle is simple to learn and reduces operator error compared with held-throttle designs.

How long does the battery last?

Between 15 minutes at maximum power and 302 minutes (just over five hours) in economy mode. Typical recreational mixed-gear use is around 90 – 120 minutes per charge.

Can it be used in salt water?

Yes – the Barracuda is fully sealed for salt-water diving. Rinse the body and jet intake with fresh water after each session to prevent salt build-up.

What is the maximum rider weight?

The Barracuda is designed to tow a single adult rider plus equipment. With 750 N of thrust it pulls strongly for the vast majority of recreational users; heavy loads will reduce top speed and range.

What does the single- or dual-trigger throttle mean?

You can operate the Barracuda with a single trigger for relaxed one-hand control, or switch to dual-trigger mode for a balanced two-hand grip when you want to hold full thrust comfortably on longer or faster runs.

How do I transport the Barracuda?

The included carry bag and trolley make car-to-shore transport straightforward. Total weight is 29.5 kg. For air travel, check the lithium-ion battery rules of your carrier – the 2,016 Wh battery requires special documentation on most airlines.

Which colour options are available?

The Barracuda is available in Carbon Black, Carbon Green and Carbon Red – all with the same 100% carbon-fibre construction and identical performance. Choose your colour in the configurator above.

What is the maintenance schedule?

Routine maintenance is limited to a fresh-water rinse after each salt-water session, periodic inspection of the o-rings and charge-port seal, and dealer service on the jet impeller every 100 – 200 hours of use depending on conditions. The user-serviceable modular design keeps downtime minimal.
