Lightweight high-performance electric sea scooter
The AquaPlane Mantis delivers professional sea-scooter performance in a portable 24 kg package. A 4.7 kW jet drive produces 670 N of thrust, accelerating the Mantis to a top surface speed of 22 km/h in under three seconds. Six selectable power levels, a 1,728 Wh battery, dual 1,200 lumen headlights and a full-feature display put serious capability into the hands of recreational divers and professionals alike.
Performance and Engineering
4.7 kW jet drive, 670 N thrust
Engineered by a team with over a decade of automotive design experience, the Mantis delivers a class-leading power-to-weight ratio. The streamlined hull minimises drag through the water; the jet drive reaches 22 km/h at the top gear and pulls strong even under higher load.
Six power levels (gears)
Six fixed-output power levels from approximately 350 W to 6.2 kW give precise control: economy mode for hours of cruising on a single battery, top gear for sprint runs and competition use. Each gear also caps motor RPM, helping with tight underwater manoeuvring.
1,728 Wh removable battery
The large 1,728 Wh battery delivers an operating time from 19 minutes at maximum output up to 294 minutes (nearly five hours) at low gear. Lower gears extend battery life from minutes to hours and reduce fatigue on long dive sessions.
Display and Navigation
Feature-rich onboard display
- Battery level – bar indicator + percentage
- Current power mode (active gear) and max-gear limit
- Live motor RPM via digital gauge
- Compass with cardinal direction
- Pitch and roll attitude indicators
- Real-time depth + adjustable depth limit (up to 40 m)
- Trip timer + total usage timer
- Headlight status with auto-brightness by depth
- Battery temperature
Safety and Features
Programmable maximum depth
Set a maximum depth between 2 m and 45 m to match dive plan or rider experience. Helpful for instructor-led sessions, rental fleets and depth-restricted environments.
One-hand operation mode
A dedicated one-hand mode keeps full control available even when a free hand is needed for camera, signalling or grabbing structure.
User-serviceable design
Modular construction allows in-house service for routine maintenance, reducing downtime and total cost of ownership. Trained dealers handle deeper work.
Gentle positive buoyancy
3.5 kg of positive buoyancy means the Mantis floats if released – reducing fatigue on the surface and preventing sinking incidents. An optional neutral-buoyancy weight kit is available for divers.
Design and Construction
- Display – high-contrast info hub with on-screen controls for quick adjustments
- Control buttons and grips – ergonomic, gear-based on/off throttle (no fatiguing held-throttle, no leaky rotating throttle)
- Front lights – dual 1,200 lumen headlights, auto-adjusting with depth
- Rear lights – constant rear illumination for group awareness
- Grab handles – side handles for easy carrying and stationary grip
- Water jet outlet – high thrust, safely directed away from rider
- Charge port – fast-charge system with secure water-tight cover

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Mantis suitable for beginners?
Yes. Gear 1 is intentionally tuned for first-time users, and the programmable depth limit lets you cap dives at any depth between 2 m and 45 m.
How long does the battery last?
Between 19 minutes at maximum power and 294 minutes (nearly five hours) in economy mode. Typical recreational mixed-gear use is around 90 – 120 minutes per charge.
Can it be used in salt water?
Yes – the Mantis is fully sealed for salt-water diving. Rinse with fresh water after each session.
What is the difference between the Mantis and the Barracuda?
The Mantis is the lighter-weight model: 24 kg, 670 N thrust, 22 km/h top speed, 6 gears. The Barracuda is heavier and more powerful: 29.5 kg, 750 N thrust, 24 km/h top speed, 7 gears, with carbon-fibre construction and dual-trigger throttle option.
How realistic is the maximum runtime?
The 294-minute figure assumes lowest gear with light load. In real-world recreational diving with mixed gears, expect roughly half – still significantly longer than most competitors.
